Server-side Group Breaks
Description
Server-side Group Breaks can be used with different data source types. Group breaks take the form of headers over blocks of data that share something in common. These should not to be confused with titles. Whereas a title is inserted above a block of data, group breaks draw their definition from the data itself. Alpha Anywhere contains a number of properties that help in determining how the group break should be formed from existing data, whether or not it should be used to sort data, and means of changing group break headers. These properties are listed here.
- Name
- Description
- Has group breaks
The Has group breaks property specifies if the list should be divided into groups.
- Break field
If you check Has group breaks then the next step is to define the Break field property. The Break field property is the field in the List on which to break.
- Sort on break field
Should the data be sorted on the break field? If the data is already in the correct order then you can turn this property off.
- Break field characters to check
Should the entire field be checked, or just a specified number of characters? For example, in a list of people, you might break on the Lastname field and set the number of characters to check to 1 to check the first character. Set the value of this property to -1 to check the entire field.
- Break is case-sensitive
Should a case-sensitive comparison be done to determine if a break should be inserted?
- Group header text lookup dictionary
This property specifies an optional 'dictionary' that can translate break fields into more meaningful text.
