Open a Non-Alpha Anywhere File

Description

The Open a Non-Alpha Anywhere File action opens a file with its Windows associated application. For example, specifying a .XLS file causes Microsoft Excel to run and specifying a .DOC file causes Microsoft Word to run.

Procedure

  1. Specify how the file will be selected. There are four choices:

    • "Specify name of file to open now".

    • "Prompt for name of file to open at runtime".

    • "Specify a variable that contains the name of the file to open".

    • "Specify an expression that evaluates to the name of the file to open".

  2. If you selected "Specify name of file to open now", enter its name in the File Name field. Optionally, click the Folder icon to navigate to the file of interest.

  3. If you selected "Specify a variable that contains the name of the file to open", enter the name of the variable in the Variable field. Optionally, click the black triangle to display a list of available variables.

  4. If you selected "Specify an expression that evaluates to the name of the file to open", enter an expression in the Expression field. Optionally, x-y icon to display the Expression Builder.

  5. Click Next >.

  6. Optionally modify the comment that describes the action.

  7. Click Finish.
